Hi, I am Viliane & Welcome to my food blog!
Hellooo, my name is Viliane!!!! I love to eat and I love to cook. Here we talk about African cuisine. I share African recipes here, but not only! So let’s travel together around our dear beautiful continent that is Africa from our kitchen to revalue and highlight our dishes, which are sometimes forgotten!!!!!
I was born in Cameroon, Africa, where the cuisine/street food is one of the best in the world. I grew up in Yaounde and I remember that almost every day when I left high school, I couldn’t fail to buy a little something on the way home, whether it was fritters, pork with bread, or Bissap juice… the choice was enormous… lol
In the country, during ceremonies, whether it was a wedding, a bereavement, or even the mother’s reunion at home, we would get together and cook a feast, the meal would even last 2 or even 3 days before finishing!… Cooking, and giving food is an integral part of our culture … I grew up in this context and I didn’t even know how much I loved food. It wasn’t until I left Africa that I noticed it was part of me.
After obtaining my baccalaureate, I left for Germany to continue my studies. At first, eating wasn’t that difficult because my mother filled my bags with food from the country. After a few months, my provisions ran out, and I then entered a phase where thinking about what I was going to eat became an. Making the spaghetti, the rice, the toast… was already tiring me out! I decided that I couldn’t continue living like this. I had to bring a little piece of home here.
I was on a budget and automatically thought African food was too expensive. But in reality, this is not always the case. With good recipes, it’s possible! There’s only so much you can do with what you have. And that’s what I started doing. Incorporate 2 African meals per month, then per week, and so on.
I started researching to see what we eat in Africa, not just in Cameroon. I also discovered small dishes that I could easily make. And that’s how I had the idea to share with you what I discovered here.
Currently, I work as a computer scientist, and I take care of this blog in my free time. I recently opened my YouTube channel where I share slightly longer recipe videos, than the one I usually publish on IG.
My long-term plan or my dream is to take a brief trip to Africa, more precisely to sub-Saharan Africa just to eat lol and visit the country too eh… but more to eat anyway and discover new flavors.
I never thought I would share what I love with the world…and for that, I am forever grateful! Thank you to everyone who visits my blog, leaves me comments, tries the recipes, and subscribes to my newsletter! THANK YOU
